Lectionary Readings and Prayers
First Reading: Philippians 104: 10-15
He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.
They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.
He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
He makes grass grow for cattle, and plants for people to cultivate – bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.
Gospel Reading: John 6: 28-35
Then they asked him, ‘What must we do to do the works God requires?”
Jesus answered, ‘The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.’
So they asked him, ‘What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: “He gave them
bread from heaven to eat.’
Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is
the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’
‘Sir,’ they said, ‘always give us this bread.’ Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
Collect
Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us your gift of faith that, forsaking what lies behind and reaching out to that which is before, we may run the way of your commandments
and win the crown of everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Post Communion
We praise and thank you, O Christ, for this sacred feast: for here we receive you, here the memory of your passion is renewed, here our minds are filled with grace,
and here a pledge of future glory is given, when we shall feast at that table where you reign with all your saints for ever.
Other Notices:
We welcome as many people as possible to join us at our Maintenance mornings. There’s always plenty to do and your help makes a difference. Drinks and biscuits will be provided.
Thank you.

PRAYER GROUP
We are looking at creating a Prayer Group in September – a chance to pray together, focus on particular people and issues, and explore different ways of praying.
We hope this will grow into a Prayer Tree for the Parish. If you are interested, please call Mary Carpenter on 07757 316658.
Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal:
We are still collecting for the Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal.
Lists of suggested contents are available at the front of the Church, or alternatively speak to Mary and Michelle.
Please leave shoe boxes (if possible, already wrapped in Christmas paper) and any donations under the table at St Cuthbert’s Church.
